Born and raised in Texas, singer/songwriter Katy Belle wanted to bring her modern, electronic pop sound to a global audience. In 1998, she packed her bags for Los Angeles, and within a week, found herself cast in the hit television show Wings, followed by appearances in Beverly Hills 90210, Seventh Heaven, and Ellen. Katy starred in the feature film Hangman after being discovered by the director in a coffee shop.
With her music career on the back burner, Katy began to focus on acting, but when her acting teacher introduced her to renowned music producer Pete Snell (Lyle Lovett, ‘I Am Sam’ soundtrack), Katy’s career took off like a shot. Six months later, she was one of the busiest young musicians in LA, playing in every major club in the area and working with legends like Andy Summers of the Police. She held the #1 spot on SpinRecords for 26 consecutive weeks, landed three songs on movie soundtracks, and in early 2002 was nominated for an American Music Award for “Best Independent Artist.” Somehow, Katy found time to run the Los Angeles marathon and was a finalist for the hit television show Survivor.
Now based in Austin TX, MATSON BELLE has already made its mark on Austin’s dynamic music scene.
Updates: Matson belle recently won the Austin Songwriter’s Award for ‘Best Pop Song,’ winners best electronic band, best pop band, best new Austin band at the 2003 Austin Music Awards
