Hyper Static Union has birthed a new sound fused by persuasive melodies, gripping guitars, rhythmic funk, and undeniable vocals. With influences ranging from the all stars of soul such as, Stevie Wonder and James Brown to the recent sounds of The Foo Fighters, Jamiroquai, and Lenny Kravitz, the band has avoided formulaic recaps of noisy '90s rock.
Hyper Static Union's live magnetism showcases Shawn Lewis' acrobatic lead vocals and brings college and club crowds to their feet. Lenny Kravitz watched as Shawn got up on stage with him during his recent sound-check at the Portland Rose Garden and screamed out an explosive version of "Are You Gonna Go My Way?”. After Shawn and Lenny rocked the stage, Lenny invited anyone else who wanted to sing saying, "I'm not sure I would want to go on after that."
Hyper Static Union's infectious melodies and compelling guitar grooves have caught the attention of critical ears around the country. This attention has helped to place HSU tracks on networks such as MTV while opening up shows for gold and platinum artists such as Eve 6, Better Than Ezra, and Switchfoot. A promising debut, Hyper Static Union's disc is shimmering and spiritual, much like Stevie Wonder circa "Talking Book"/"Innervisions." It brings these styles back to life with a vengeance. The band regularly covers Wonder's “I Wish” and "Superstition" live, doing the classics justice.
